The Life and Works of Rizal
Description
This is a course on the literary works of Jose Rizal. Students will be introduced to the historical elements or narratives surrounding the birth of his thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. The course will also discuss Rizal’s life, R.A. 1425, excerpts from his Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, selected poems, plays, and his socio-political essays. The works will be given multiple meanings and interpretations-postcolonial, feminist, historical, sociological, formalist, biographical, etc. many current issues would be discussed alongside the interpretations and analyses of the texts.
